Tom Dean Selected for Commonwealth Youth Games

Tom Dean is part of a squad of 12 swimmers who have been  selected to represent Team England at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. This is his first experience of an international multi-sport event and is an important part in his development.

The swimmers will join athletes from six other sports in the Caribbean, introducing Judo and Beach Volleyball for the first time. The event is taking place this week from the 19th-23rd July. Around 1,300 athletes will compete for a possible 94 medals.

Fred Furniss England Team Leader says: “This I believe is a strong team England team and the vast majority of the swimmers are part of the Great Britain Junior team selected for the European Junior Championships in Netanya Israel.  “The team is selected on a ‘best fit’ basis with individuals covering the full range of events at the Games.  “This will be a great opportunity for our athletes. It will give them their first experience of competition in a multi-sport environment with swimming being one of the seven sports at the Games.

“Going forward, this will benefit our athletes in their continued development should they progress to major games selection at a later stage in their swimming career.”
