SE 14&U Regionals Championships - Second weekend

Marlins continued their good form at the second weekend of the SE 14&U Regional Championships held at Crawley on 27th & 28th May

The second weekend saw all eight qualifiers racing including a debut for Alex Bacon competing in the 200 IM and narrowly missing out on a top 10 finish but bagging himself a new PB . Hayden Netherwood-Meek performed well in the gruelling 200m Fly.  James Meyrick managing a credible 17th placing for the 100m Back event whilst Amelia Bell matched this in the 50m Back event. Dylan Hillier performed well in the 50m Free and 100m Fly events as did Louise Ashford who had five events over the weekend (100m & 200m Breast, 100m & 200m Free &400 IM).

However the stand out swims came from William Dean taking a PB in the heats of the 50m breaststroke and then winning the final to take gold by a clear second. Also causing a stir was Isobel Benster who made two finals, firstly the 100m Free where she took the silver and then topping this by convincingly winning the final of the 50m fly and securing an English Nationals qualification for this event.

Well done to all 14&U swimmers- 30 swims, 5 finals, 32 PBs, 2 Regional Age Champions in 3 events , one silver as well as 6 final reserve spots.

South East 14&U Regional Championships - 13th & 14th May

The first weekend of the South East 14&U Regional Championships was a successful one for Marlins swimmers , resulting in 10 PBs, 2 finalist places , 3 reserve finalists and one Regional Champion - William Dean in the 12 year old - 100m breaststroke.

Day one saw personal bests from Amelia Bell in the 200m IM and 100m back,  William Dean in the 200m breast and Isobel Benster in the 200m fly. Whilst Dylan Hillier fought hard in the 100m free and narrowly missed out on the 14 year old final.

Day two started with James Meyrick (14 year) taking a reserve spot in the 50m Back and Isobel (13 year) a reserve spot in the 50m free but then going one better to qualify 7th into the 100m fly final.  Whilst Amelia Bell performed well in 200m Back , William Dean set the standard in the 100m Breast finishing fastest in his age group and so into the final. Louise Ashford raced well in her first ever regional race in the 400m free.

In the finals session there was no holding back with Isobel up first in the 100m fly and moving up to finish a very close 4th with only seven tenths splitting first to fourth places. William Dean then stepped up to win the first 14&U medal for Marlins by dominating the 100m breast final and winning it by 3.5 seconds.

Well done to all our swimmers and lets keep that momentum going for weekend two at the end of May.

Joel then completed the set winning a bronze in the 400m IM.

The girls 800m freestyle relay team of Alyssa Basinger, Beth Neal, Daria Poma-Kostik  and Emma Hepworth came a credible 10th place in the 14 to 16 age group. Whilst Beth and Emma then went on the get top 10 placings  (9th and 10th respectively) in the 400m freestyle event with Beth then narrowly missing out on the 15 year old final for both 50m and 100m free.    For the boys Tom Dean finished first in the 200m freestyle event and Alex Wood competed in the 50m backstroke event.  Liv Howley also made an appearance in the 400m medley relay with the girls team finishing 16th overall .
