Counties 2015 - A CENTURY OF MEDALS

The last 3 weekends at the Magnet and High Wycombe pools saw a large contingent of marlins swimmers smashing PBs, winning medals and breaking records at Counties 2015.   A number of regional times were achieved which augurs well for the rest of the season.

Qualification for counties has become harder and competition was fierce but Marlins swimmer held their own.   Congratulations to all the swimmers taking part.  The table below  shows the medal table sorted in olympic style in the age group championships. It is hoped that those age group medals can be transitioned into the hard won full county championship medals as the swimmers progress through the club.   In the Age Groups and overall county championships 100 Medals were won.  (note: this does not include junior championship medals which the county website makes it harder to summarise - so overall the count was more - but 100 medals is a good round number)

Aquanex Testing

Marlins Swimmers were lucky to experience the first clinic in the UK from Rod Havriluk of Swim Technology Research using his patented Aquanex system which measures hand force and synchronises to underwater video.  Rod had been conducting training camps in Saudi Arabia and India over the last 2 weeks and was routing back to Florida via Heathrow.   His planned session in the UK had to be cancelled and Marlins stepped in to take advantage.  For those who want to read more  https://www.swimmingtechnology.com/ Each swimmer was measured over a 3/4 of a length for 2 strokes and then a post session analysis for a couple of hours went into detail to review opportunity for improvements.  Rod has measured over 10,000 swimmers ranging from Olympic champions to young age groupers and his experience was very evident.   Rod was impressed by what he saw today at Marlins and his comment to Paul Lloyd was that the all the swimmers showed high quality fundamentals.  With the hand force measurement Rod was able to see a number of areas for improvement across various swimmers and strokes which he hoped they would be able to address.    Paul Lloyd will have the software installed and be able to review the testing results with each swimmer.   The overall assessment was the technology and session was very useful and should help fine tune technique.  Paul indicated that he would be looking to see that the swimmers have taken on board the comments. The picture below shows a screen shot showing the force curve for one of the breaststroke tests on the day with the video in sync showing someone creates more force with the left arm than the right to show the idea.
