British Summer Championships - 25th to 30th July 2017

Well done to Marlins swimmers - Daria Poma-Kostik , Joel Lange and Maisie Cossins who took part in the British Summer Championships last week - the Championship took place across six days at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from 25–30 July. Daria made the final for the 100m and 200m breaststroke finals coming 9th and 8th respectively whilst Joel got the silver in the 16 year old 200m breaststroke final with an amazing 6 second PB over his entry time . Well done Marlins swimmers . 

Maisie , Daria and Joel compete again at the English Nationals this week (2nd to 6th August) and are joined by Isobel Benster competing at her first Nationals in the 50m fly - good luck Marlins swimmers . 


Tom Dean wins GOLD & SILVER at the Commonwealth Youth Games

Well done to Tom Dean who won a SILVER medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas in the 400m Individual medley event on Thursday evening. In a time of 4.24.47 he was beaten into second place by Kiwi Lewis Clareburt. 

He then qualified for the 200IM final on Saturday 22nd July and in an exciting final was crowned Commonwealth Youth Games Champion winning the GOLD in a time of 2.02.13.

Tom Dean Selected for Commonwealth Youth Games

Tom Dean is part of a squad of 12 swimmers who have been  selected to represent Team England at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.This is his first experience of an international multi-sport event and is an important part in his development.

The swimmers will join athletes from six other sports in the Caribbean, introducing Judo and Beach Volleyball for the first time. The event is taking place this week from the 19th-23rd July. Around 1,300 athletes will compete for a possible 94 medals.

Fred Furniss England Team Leader says: “This I believe is a strong team England team and the vast majority of the swimmers are part of the Great Britain Junior team selected for the European Junior Championships in Netanya Israel.  “The team is selected on a ‘best fit’ basis with individuals covering the full range of events at the Games.  “This will be a great opportunity for our athletes. It will give them their first experience of competition in a multi-sport environment with swimming being one of the seven sports at the Games.

“Going forward, this will benefit our athletes in their continued development should they progress to major games selection at a later stage in their swimming career.”

A Great Performance by Tom Dean at the LEN European Junior Championships 2017

Tom Dean has been outstanding at the LEN European Junior Championships in Netanya , Israel this week ( 28th June to 2nd July) . Firstly he did well to make the final in the 200m breaststroke event - coming 8th overall and in a new personal best time. In the 200m IM event he qualified third fastest for the final and pulled out a superb performance to win gold and be crowned European Junior Champion in a fantastic time of 2.01.02. Finally he finished the championship off by again making the final in the 400m IM event and taking a silver narrowly beaten by Hungarian swimmer Balazs Hollo . 


MKDJL Round 2

The second round of the MKDJL held at the Chilterns Pool in Amersham on 1st July was an exciting event which saw Marlins neck and neck with Amersham after the relays - both teams having 63 points - with some great swims from the 9 and 10 year old relay teams. In the individual events - Marlins swimmers continued to shine with first place finishes for Helena and Sam Kennedy,  Chloe Platt, Charlotte Heard-Norrish , Matthew Burrows, Jake Foster, Ben Phillips , William Dean , Ethan Wills and Lars Cheli . At the half way point Marlins had a small lead over Amersham but were pulled back to a two point deficit at the 40 events mark .  With only the relays to go Marlins fought hard but narrowly missed out coming second to Amersham .   Final scores were :
