Our Aims

As a competitive swimming club it is our aim to develop swimming to the highest individual level possible and to encourage talented swimmers to progress through from the stroke development groups into the coaching section of the club by the age of eight.

Learn to Swim sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at Newlands School and Wednesday evenings at St Piran's schools. All club teachers are ASA qualified and CRB checked.

 

Learn to Swim Pathway

Beginners

 

Aims  Skills
• Develop Water confidence • Aquatic movement and submersion breath control
• Learn Flotation & Rotation Skills • Various floating & regaining standing techniques. Push & Glide
• Develop Kicking techniques • Basic kicking - all 4 strokes
• Learn basic arm movements • Sculling simple arm stroke type movements

 

Stroke Improvers

 

Aims  Skills
• 4 stroke  basic techniques • Body position, Leg action, Breathing techniques  & stroke timing
• Streamlining • Push & Glide, Breakout stroke
• Develop advanced rotation technique • Longitudinal (front to back)  Lateral (roly poly rotation)
• Basic Diving Skills • Basic diving & surface diving Techniques

 

Advanced Stroke Improvers

 

Aims  Skills
• 4 efficient stroke  techniques • Body position, Leg action, Breathing techniques  & stroke timing
•  Streamlining • Push & Glide, Breakout stroke introducing racing laws
• Develop advanced rotation technique     applied to each stroke • Balanced side on kicking with controlled rotation. 
• Basic Starts & Turns • Basic diving & turning skills
